Tareque Masud was born on 6 December 1956. He had started his education in an Islamic madrasah, but the outburst of the Bangladesh Liberation War against Pakistan forces in 1971 put an end to his studies. Later the war, Masud followed general education. He had finished his HSC from Notre Dame College, Dhaka. His Hon’s and Master’s degree completed from Dhaka University in History. His wife, Catherine Masud was born in Chicago. He is a film editor. They lived together, raised their child together, worked together, wrote scripts together, made films together, and even won the Cannes Awards together. They have a son named Masud  Nishad. Masud died in a road accident near Ghior Upazila on 13 August 2011.
